Editorial Review:

Product Description:
B> This book shows elementary teachers how and why to use phonogram poems to teach phonics. It includes many sample poems for the most common rimes in children's reading. An intro chapter shows why the onset/rime (phonogram) approach is important to teaching phonics. Chapters with original poems and other texts for the 40 or so most common rimes in children's reading are also included. Approximately 100 poems are included in this book, and there is also information on extending the use of the poems into other activities and texts. Practicing elementary teachers in grades K-3, and parents who are creating reading programs for their children at home.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Phonics Poetry
This book provides teachers with selections that will support fluency instruction as well as a beginning for the word study that is part of a balanced literacy program. Children enjoy the fun poems and the rhyming provides support for the struggling reader. Helping to develop comprehension is also part of this book. Children use words from the poems to complete sentences. Children use context clues to help complete the sentences.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Hooked on Phonics Poetry
I have found this book to be an excellent teaching resource for young readers. Several teachers that I have spoken to about the book echo my sentiment.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not the best, but not the worst
If you are looking for poems that contain more than three words from a word family then this is not the book for you. Most of the poems only contain two or three words from the word family being focused on. The author gives many additional activities for working with word families, but I purchased this hoping for poems with many words from a word family to focus on with my first graders. Although, overall it is a well organized book.
