Marc Brown's really truly helpful word book--reminiscent of Richard Scarry's work--is chock full of labeled objects, from tea kettle to tuna fish to circuit breaker to rock star. A brief paragraph introduces each page, leaving readers free to peruse the lively pictures and words at their leisure. The very young child will use the book to learn the names of things, while children a bit older will develop and hone their new reading skills. Different settings--school, Daddy's kitchen, the beach in summer--allow readers to see learning opportunities in their everyday lives. Arthur's popularity and TV-star status among youngsters will inspire them to read on! Full of motion, color, and life, this book will be an automatic favorite. (Ages 2 and older) --Emilie Coulter Product Description: Marc Brown's beloved, bespectacled Arthur, a storybook favorite among primary graders for more than twenty years, is now a hero to the millions of preschoolers who watch his daily show on PBS television. To reach this younger audience, Marc Brown has pulled out all the stops and created a word book that truly lives up to its name--it's really helpful! In this big, exciting book Marc Brown has pictured and labled more than 1,000 everyday words in environments ranging from the zoo to Mom's office. And, as a bonus not found in any other word book, each page makes learning a playful game by exploring the imagination and reinforcing early-learning concepts in a fun way. Here's a book that grows with the child from toddler to first grade--use it first to help develop a baby's spoken vocabulary and later to teach counting, colors, the alphabet, opposites, shapes, and other basics. When "back to school" rolls around this year, Arthur, his sister D.W., and their friends and family are ready to make it more fun than ever! Average Rating:

The layout is enjoyable to look at, with a large 2-page spread scene surrounded on the border with smaller related images - all labelled. The scenes show Arthur and his family at school, at the grocery store, at work, at play, reading, during the seasons, at the mall, at Grandpa Dave's farm, when Arthur grows up, etc. My 2 year old loves Arthur and loves looking at this book. There are so many words! Such a helpful, educational, and entertaining ... Read More Rating: - Endless entertainment and learning! My one year old LOVES this book. I'm sure it's ideal for older children just learning to read, but she really enjoys pointing to things and having me name them for her. Every object and animal you can think of is pictured in the book. There is not really a story, but each page has a "theme" and related pictures and words. We love it! And she is constantly learning new words as a result. Rating: - It is my daughter's favorite bookThis book holds the attention of my 1 1/2 yr old for a half hour or more! Do I really need to say any more? She loves to point to the pictures and have me read the names. The best thing about the book is that I expect to use it for a few years. As she grows, the book has more to offer - ABC's, 123's, puzzles and plenty to spark the imagination. Rating: - Excellent book for preschoolersMy daughter loves to point at the pictures and say the words that goes with them. The words are put into familiar settings (home, grocery store etc.) She learns new words and enjoys recognizing the ones she already knows.
