An Action Story by Pam Schiller

Jackie Silberg and Pam Schiller present this action story along with over 600 other activities in
The Complete Book of Activities, Games, Stories, Props, Recipes, and Dances for Young Children

The children were excited. They jumped up and down with delight. (Jump up and down.) It was time to go outdoors. They put on their coats. (Pretend to put on a coat.) They put on their mittens. (Pretend to put on mittens.) And then they put on their hats. (Pretend to put on a hat.) They opened the door (pretend to open door), and out they ran.

The wind was strong. It blew hard against them. (Pretend to walk against the wind.) The children walked more slowly toward the swings and the slide. They swung awhile. (Pretend to swing.) The wind blew their swings crooked. (Pretend to go crooked.)

They decided to try the slide. They climbed up the ladder. (Pretend to climb.) When they went down the slide, the wind pushed them faster. (Pretend to slide -- land on bottom.)

Next, some of the children rode on the tricycles (pretend to pedal) while others played ball. (Pretend to catch a ball.)

Soon the children noticed that the wind had died down. They began to feel warm. (Fan yourself.) The children took off their mittens. (Pretend to take off mittens.) Then they went to play in the sand. (Pretend to hold sand in your hand.)

They were still hot. (Fan.) They took off their hats. (Pretend to take off hat.) They took off their coats. (Pretend to take off coat.) They went back to play on the swings (pretend to swing) and the slide (Pretend to slide.)

Just then, they began to feel raindrops. (Hold out hand as if feeling for rain.) The children picked up their mittens, their coats, and their hats, and ran inside just in time. When they looked out the window, (shade eyes as if looking) they saw a big black cloud and lots and lots of raindrops.
